There is a significant update regarding the threats against our school district. A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the concerning threats that caused distress within our community. At 1:03pm, RVUSD was notified by local law enforcement that the suspect could not be located. To ensure the safety of students, a “Shelter in Place” was implemented across all RV campuses until the suspect could be located. At approximately 1:28pm, RVUSD was notified that the suspect had been arrested and the shelter in place was lifted. This development is the result of the dedicated efforts of the Round Valley Police Department, the Apache County Sheriff's Office, and the Arizona Department of Safety. Their collaboration and unwavering commitment have played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, teachers, staff, and families. We want to take this moment to say thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this challenging time. We understand the worry and anxiety that this situation has caused. RVUSD is committed to the safety of our school community. It's important to remember that threats against our district are taken with the utmost seriousness, and the consequences for such actions are severe, as per both state and federal laws. We also want to remind everyone that making threats using the internet does not guarantee anonymity. Law enforcement possesses advanced tools to trace online activities and track down those responsible for such actions. Please understand we are doing everything in our power to maintain a secure learning environment for our students. The collaborative efforts displayed during this investigation are a testament to our shared dedication to providing a safe and nurturing space for education. For any further information or questions, please feel free to reach out to me or your child’s school administrator. Slade Morgan RVUSD Superintendent

We want to assure you that your student’s safety remains our utmost priority. As we prepare to reopen our school tomorrow, Monday, August 14th, we would like to share some important information with you. Local law enforcement has communicated that the investigation into the recent social media threat is still ongoing. Thank you to all the students and parents who continue to share information with the police and the district. RV will be taking significant measures to ensure a safe and secure environment for all our students and staff. Law enforcement will be present at each school, and we will have extra supervision to provide an added layer of security. School counselors and other community agencies will be available for students experiencing feelings of uncertainty. We are aware that many parents have been contemplating whether to send their students back to school under the circumstances. Please know that we respect your individual decisions as parents and guardians. If you have any concerns or questions about sending your child to school, we encourage you to reach out to your student's school principal. We are here to support you and provide information to address any worries you may have. Our schools will operate on their normal hours, and we kindly remind all visitors to check in at the front office before entering the premises. This procedure helps us maintain a safe and controlled environment for everyone. Regarding the social media threat, we want to emphasize the importance of discussing online safety with your students. While it is still unclear whether the threat originated within our community or elsewhere, we believe it is crucial to educate our students about the potential dangers of interacting with unknown individuals on social media platforms. Threats against schools and people are matters of serious concern, and we want to ensure that our students are well-informed and cautious online. Round Valley Unified School District takes threats of any nature seriously. We are committed to maintaining a safe environment for all students. Your cooperation and understanding help achieve this goal. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we navigate these challenging times together. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or require further information. Together, we can create a secure and enriching educational experience for all our students. No school today (8/10/2023) RVUSD administration was notified late last night by the Round Valley Police Department that a social media post was made threatening our district. Local law enforcement and multiple agencies are investigating to find the source of this threat. Presently, we do not have any reason to believe the threat is credible. However, due to the timing of this incident, and out of caution for the safety of our students and staff, RVUSD has made a decision to cancel school for August 10th. All RV campuses will be closed to students and staff during this time—we will provide an update regarding afternoon activities later today. RV administration will continue to work with law enforcement and to the degree we are able, will pass along information as it becomes available. We sincerely appreciate the hard work of our local law enforcement. Slade Morgan, RVUSD Superintendent
